RS PRO Bump Polarised IDC Sockets
From RS PRO, this high-quality IDC connector is an excellent solution to terminating cables in low voltage power applications quickly and easily. With a tough glass-filled polyester housing and contacts made from beryllium copper, this IDC connector is a robust and reliable wire-to-board solution.
The connector also features a central bump polarisation and double depth polarising grooves in the socket body for ease of mating. The design of the IDC incorporates a built-in strain relief, for peace of mind when writing important PCB and SMT connections.
This cable mount IDC connector supports up to a 1A current and 15Ω contact resistance.
Features and Benefits
Strong polyester housing
Central Bump Polarization
Operating temperature from -45°C to +105°C
Supports a 1.27mm cable pitch
Applications
IDCs are designed to be used with flat ribbon cables, and can support a huge range of wire-to-board applications. Theyre mainly used in computers connecting drives, cd drives, SSDs and other components that arent on the motherboard. Theyre also found in phones, laptops and plenty of other devices.
An IDC connector is also known as an insulation displacement connector, this is because it terminates by slicing through a cable's insulation and making a cold-weld from the connector to the wire. With no soldering or specialist tooling to worry about, IDC connectors save a huge amount of time compared to stripping the wires, so makes for an easy and efficient install. As such, when it comes to reducing assembly times, these connectors are an attractive option.
