RS PRO 316 Stainless Steel Thermowell
From RS PRO a high-quality thermowell for protecting your industrial temperature probe or thermocouple from damage. This damage is can be caused by the harsh processes the sensor is inserted into such as corrosive media. Thermowells also allow your temperature probe to be easily removed and interchanged without the need to open up and disturb the process. This thermowell is also called a thermopocket as it has a welded, fabricated 316 stainless steel design as opposed to being machined from solid metal and is suitable for use in low-pressure environments.
What is a Thermowell?
Some temperature sensors can be directly inserted into the process they measure, however, with industrial style temperature sensors, the process is a lot harsher in nature with the potential to cause damage and affect performance. This is when a protection tube called a thermowell is used. This thermowell design consists of a pre-fabricated and welded stainless steel hollow tapered tube which is closed at one end. The diameter of the tube is designed to accept a specific sized probe. The closed end of the tube is inserted into the process and secured in place with a 1/2" BSP threaded A/F hex fitting. This is called the process connection. The temperature sensor, RTD or probe is inserted into the tube and secured in place with a threaded compression fitting. This design enables the sensor to be easily and quickly inserted and removed from the pocket without having to disturb or drain the surrounding media.
Features and Benefits
Made from durable fabricated 316 stainless steel with high resistance to heat and corrosion
Durable welded construction
Provides protection against corrosive media and low-pressure gas and liquid
Reduces the possibility of contamination and increases the life of the sensor
Protection against physical impact such as clinker in a furnace
Allows quick and easy removal and insertion of the probe from the process
Prevents spillage and the need to drain vessels and pipes
Supplied with 1/8 BSP stainless steel compression fitting
Applications
Thermowells, with their robust, tapered design are ideal for use when the temperature inside a vessel or pipe need measuring. Thermowells are used in a range of industries in applications where the temperature measurement of air, gas, oil, water and other liquids is required.
