RS PRO GRP Junction Box, ATEX approved

Introducing the range of RS PRO IP66 GRP Junction Boxes. This GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester) junction box is ATEX and IECEx approved, making it suitable for use in explosive atmospheres and offers an IP66 level of ingress protection, meaning it offers a high level of protection against dust, debris and liquids. This high-quality junction box is suitable for use across various applications in the process control, automation and mining industries.

Features and Benefits:

• The hard-wearing GRP material offers double insulation and is ideal for safe storage of electrical equipment
• Smooth finish for easy cleaning and keeping the surface dust and debris free
• IP66 rated with limited ingress for dust, debris and liquids
• Self-extinguishing in line with UL 94 standards
• Stainless steel captive lid screws and silicone enclosure gasket seal
• Service temperature: -60°C to +110°C

Applications:

Junction boxes form as part of the general purpose enclosures family and are units that are designed to accommodate a wide variety of items for secure and safe storage. They are often used for the protection of electronics equipment and often are compliant to IP, fire resistance and corrosion-resistant, dependant on what is being stored and where it is being stored. These enclosures are such versatile units, they can be used for practically any storage application, they can be wall-mounted if needed and they can be made from a wide variety of materials like aluminium, ABS, fibreglass and much more.

Most common applications include:
• Installation terminals
• Electronic components
• Mechanical engineering
• Food industry
• Chemical industry
• Industrial and manufacturing environments

What is Ingress Protection?

An IP rating classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (including body parts like hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact and water in electrical enclosures. The first number indicates the protection from solids and the second number is the protection from liquids.

Can the enclosure be used outside?

This enclosure has an IP66 rating and offers the enclosure total protection from dust and debris and permits limited water and liquid ingress. This unit could be used outside, however regular checks are advised to ensure the enclosure still protects up to standard. With the fact that the junction box is made from GRP material, it also means the box itself can withstand extreme environmental conditions like long term UV exposure and rapid temperature changes, making it ideal for use outside.

What is the meaning of ATEX?

The ATEX directive consists of two EU directives describing what equipment and work space is allowed in an environment with an explosive atmosphere.
